This two day course introduces both technical and non technical aspects of WiMAX to enable the delegate to fully understand how this important new technology fits into the future of wireless communications. The need for WiMAX type services are analysed and the standards process from the IEEE and other bodies are covered. Examples of current and future WiMAX applications are given including broadband wireless access (BWA), backhaul networks, and mobile systems. WiMAX may be deployed in licensed or un-licensed bands, the differences are explained in this course along with methods of reducing interference and improving performance.

This course covers all of the necessary topics to prepare a technical student to take the WiMAX Forum RF Network Engineer certification exam. It is targeted at engineers who are planning a WiMAX deployment, and who need the skills to design the network, balancing requirements of service quality (including throughput and performance) with minimum capital and operations cost. The emphasis is on the design of the RF access network, including base station engineering and siting, and propagation analysis to serve fixed and mobile subscriber stations.
The boot camp is structured as 50% tutorial content and 50% hands-on exercises illustrated with case studies. At the end of the course you will have experience of designing the RF network for a sample WiMAX-served community.
